Aqaba is located in the southern edge of Jordon and it is the only port of this country. The port of Aqaba was developed in 1950 and today, 2001,beside the port there is the city of Aqaba.The population is around 60,000 people and growing fast.
There are three main roads to the port, and only one of them is going through the city. Many of the merchandise is passed by train.
The port is used for:
a) Three to six millon tons of phosphate for each year.(10 times than Eilat)
b) Cars from Europe and from the Far East
c) Other products for food and clothing
d) Markets for Iraq (since the gulf war 1991)
e) Ferries for Egyptian passengers that work in the Persian Gulf
along the port the are around 10 to 20 cargo ships.
