Bulk Cargoes facilities

An automatic bulk handling installation for potash, phosphates and salt operates in the port. The facility includes two large sheds for potash, covering an area of 11,700 meters with a capacity of 80,000 tons. Phosphates and salt stores with an area of 3,300 meters and capacity of 35,000 tons.
The potash and phosphates installation can load up to 900 tons per hour into ship’s holds.

 

Environment

1997 characterized with export of more than 1.7 million tons of bulk (potash, phosphate and salt). This fact and the desire to keep on exporting this kind of cargo, drove the port of Eilat to plan and execute a project of establishing a dust depressive system in the bulk facilities.

11 million new Israeli shequels were allotted for this project, and it includes:
* Purchase of a unique mechanical broom
* Sealing of sheds to suppress dust emissions
* Construction of unloading pits that includes suction systems
* Sealed towers and conveyor belts
* New dust suppression loading shute
* Establishing a real-time air pollution monitoring system

At the end, the project will set an example to other factories on maintaining clean environment Based on to the ISO-9002 standard.
